Tequila
Tequila is one of the most popular distilled alcoholic beverages worldwide and originates from central Mexico. Tequila must be made from 100% natural ingredients, distilled at least twice, and contain a minimum of 35% alcohol.
The main ingredient from which tequila is produced is blue agave – standard tequila must contain at least 51%, while the highest-quality tequilas are made from 100% blue agave.
There are five different types of tequila: Silver – white tequila, Joven – gold tequila, Reposado – aged tequila, Añejo – old or vintage tequila, and Extra Añejo – extra-aged tequila. The oldest tequila in the world is Jose Cuervo, first produced in 1795 in the town of Tequila, after which the category itself was named. It is also the best-selling tequila in the world.
